Types of Hepatitis and their causes

Hepatitis is a medical condition that is defined by inflammation of the liver and it is characterized by the presence of inflammatory cells in the tissues of liver. This condition can be self limiting or it can be progressive to scarring. There might be no or limited symptoms of hepatitis. It often leads to jaundice, malaise and anorexia. Hepatitis can be chronic or acute. It is acute when it lasts for less than six months and chronic, when it lasts for longer period for more than six months..

If a person has acute hepatitis, then he might face symptoms like flu. It is a viral infection and includes joint and muscle ache, nausea, malaise, fever, diarrhea, headache or vomiting. There are some more specific symptoms of acute hepatitis such as aversion to smoking among smokers, yellowing of the eyes, loss of appetite, dark urine or skin and abdominal discomfort. It is very common in young people. Acute hepatitis includes viral hepatitis such as A, B, C, D, and E. It is followed by yellow fever, adenoviruses, Kls-V, leptospira, toxoplasma, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Q fever, alcohol, ascheamic hepatitis, pregnancy or other auto immune conditions.

There are often non specific symptoms of chronic hepatitis. These include malaise, weakness and tiredness, and often no symptoms at all. It is mostly identified through blood test. If there is jaundice, then it damages the liver to large extent. When physical examination is carried on then the liver enlargement can be observed. If there is extensive damage to the liver, then person's weight is reduced, he might face easy bruising and blood tendencies, peripheral edema and fluid in the abdominal cavity. Cirrhosis may lead to various complications such as esophageal varices, hepatorenal syndrome, hepatic encephalopathy, acne, inflammation of thyroid gland, abnormal menstruation, kidneys and lung scarring. Hepatitis B, C and D are chronic hepatitis. These include auto immune, alcohol, drugs, methyldopa, isoniazid, nitrofurantion, ketoconazole, and non alcoholic steatohepatitism heredity such as Wilson's disease, primary biliary cirrhosis, alpha 1-Antitrypsin deficiency and primary sclerosing cholangitis. These all are the causes of chronic hepatitis that is a dangerous for health.
